The Country Club
191 Clyde St
Chestnut Hill, MA 02467-2998, United States

617.566.0240
One of the five clubs that co-founded the USGA, The Country Club is not only the oldest golf club in the United States, it is also one of the most prominent in American golf history. It was here in 1913 that the heretofore-unknown Francis Ouiment shocked the golf world by winning the U.S. Open in a playoff over the notable British golfers Harry Vardon and Ted Ray.

The current course is largely the work of Rees Jones, who oversaw renovations and modifications prior to the 1988 U.S. Open, although "restorationist" architect Gil Hanse has done other modifications. TCC has hosted 11 USGA national championships, as well as the very memorable 1999 Ryder Cup Matches.

The 236-acre parcel of land includes 27 holes spread over two courses: The Main Course comprises the Clyde and Squirrel nines, which were basically the original 18 here. The Primrose nine is an executive-length layout designed by the noted architect William S. Flynn.

Although commonly thought to be in Brookline, the club actually lies within the boundaries of Chestnut Hill. This is a very private club; visitors are permitted only as guests of members.
