Laid out in 1857 and redesigned by Old Tom Morris around 1894, Dunbar East Links is located on the estuary of the Firth of Forth, on the shores of the North Sea. Naturally, the wind is among the course's defenses.

It is used as an Open Championship Qualifying Venue when the Open is played at Muirfield. All of Scotland's major events have been played here: The Scottish Amateur, Scottish Professional Championships, and Scottish Boys’ Championship. The British Ladies and the Ladies Home Internationals have also been held here.

Visitors are welcome with advance booking; summer rates on weekdays are £70/round and £90/day, and then £90/round and £115/day on weekends. Junior, sliding twilignt, shoulder-season, and winter rates are all lower.
