This is one of the most famous and historic courses in the world, probably known best for having the original "Redan" hole, the par-3 15th that requires a tee shot drawn to the left to a sloping green.
Several clubs and societies are based at this course, including the North Berwick Golf Club, Tantallon Golf Club, and the Bass Rock Golf Club. The Childrens Course opened in 1888 as the "Ladies Links."
Hole lengths are in yards.

For me, although still a very good course, I think it is a little over rated. Some bizarre holes, especially towards the finish.
In very good condition when I have played it. The starters are first class and the clubhouse is welcoming.

What a magical place, as a guest you could not have been made more welcome. Have played here a few times now and will always go back, great course and great people. One of my top 10 golf courses I have ever played (and there have been a few!!!)

Great course but the condition of the rough was hellish and a bit dissapointing really.
You could go a yard of the fairway at some parts of the course and never see the ball again.

Excellent course, fabulous scenery and wildlife. Watchout for the green on 16, can wreck a few cards!

The West Links is the 3rd oldest course in the world. The club is VERY friendly, the scenery spectacular, and the overall course is interesting. There are some great holes like The Pit and Redan. To me, it is a must play for any golfer who is a historical student of the game.

Play and enjoy. A classic Links experience. 8 out. one across. Nine back, with some of the best holes you will ever play.

This is a no brainer, just go and play it! This is links golf as it should be. I was playing with some Canadians and one of them remarked 'who would put a wall in the middle of a golf course' (hole 13, The Pit). I told him that the wall probably predated the course and certainly Canada! Anyway, magical place and whoever designed the course was a Genius!
