The Newport Beach was first made in 1997 in the striking oil can finish. What differentiates the Newport from the Newport Beach is the slit in the sole just behind the face. The slit gives the putter a unique sound that can be translated into crisp or soft depending on the player. The 2001 Newport Beach was similar but with a few modifications. The topline on the ‘01 Beach is flat and the putter is wider to give it a stronger, squarer look.
