This private club was founded in 1898, although the present course opened in 1911 with a design by the noted amateur golfer, Walter J. Travis. During the 1930s, the club acquired additional land and made changes to the Travis design.

Two USGA championships have been played here; the 1921 U.S. Open (Jim Barnes) and the 2003 Boys' Junior Amateur Championship (Brian Harman).
