Great track for not-so-long hitters. Challenging and makes you use about every club. Course management is important. Have played here often and it is always in good shape.

Not much left of Marshall Field's sportsman club. Suburbia everywhere, and I -90 bordering a few holes. Tight OB on some holes because of this. Didn't care for the neighborhood. If Hoffman Estates has a crappy area, the course is in the middle of it. But, I digress back to the review.

Value, I was thinking it was a steal at first, $35 with a cart. Course was in good shape. Greens were true and fast. Around 10-11 on the stimp. A lot of break on the greens. Bunkers were in good shape. Bev cart came by about every 3 or 4 holes. Water stations on about every third or fourth hole. A few portable restrooms available.

Pace of play was glacial. Not from a lack of trying by the rangers to speed things up a little. As I understand it from the rangers, the course is frequented by a certain ethnicity, that insists on playing from the blue tees, when the should be playing from the red tees. Two slow 4-somes made for almost a 5 hour round on a weekday !!!! Not once was our group offered to play through. Otherwise pace of play probably would have been good. All about timing I guess.
Staff was very friendly.

If I didn't already know the course was opened in 1970, I would have guessed 1930. It has an old school feel to it. Not long, only 6400 from the blue tees, but some narrow holes, well placed water hazards, and some tricky breaks in the greens make for a fun course, if you can get out at the right time.

Eventhough I had my worst round of the year at this course, I did not like the course very much. The best aspect of this course are the greens. They were just perfect. Fast and true. Extremely fast. Easily the fastest greens I have played on all year. The rest of the course is so-so. I have played many Robert Trent Jones Sr. courses and this so far is my least favorite. I just did not like the overall feel of the course. The holes were uninspiring.

I was a little nervous when I only played $25 to play on a Tuesday, but I was very surprised at how nice the course was. The greens are VERY fast, but roll true. I would recommend this course especially given the low price!
