This 1925 Donald Ross design is one of the few that is available for public play — and at an affordable price, too. The many trademark Ross "turtleback" greens and circular bunkers offset the relatively short length. Palatka is located near Ravine State Gardens, 55 miles south of downtown Jacksonville.

The standard walking rate is $23; carts are $5. Twilight, cardholder, and 9-hole rates are available, as are memberships.

Very nice municipal Donald Ross course. Played by myself in under three hours on a weekday. Greens had been aerified the previous week, but still rolled pretty well. Lots of sand -- both standard bunkers and waste bunkers. Course is short (approximately 6,000 yards from the tips), but there are several holes where you must hit it straight. Surprising elevation changes for a Florida course, especially on the front nine. I'll play this course again the next time I am in Palatka.

Well said by shank9999 verbatim from his review 'short but not tight for relatively straight hitters....par 3's are tough....par 5's are short but the Donald Ross greens make up for that and the par 4's are well...if you can hit both a cut and a hook you will love it.'

I give the course a 5 star rating after two rounds....short but not tight for relatively straight hitters....par 3's are tough....par 5's are short but the Donald Ross greens make up for that and the par 4's are well...if you can hit both a cut and a hook you will love it. I'm not a long hitter (230 - 240 average). I've played all over the world and this is a must play if your a fan of Donald Ross courses. I gave them a low rating on hospitality but in fairness they had a wedding planned that evening, we finished at 3:00 and the tables were set but the locals did extend an invitation to join them at the only table avaialbe...in hindsight we should have joined them.
