ASU Karsten Golf Course

Home to one of the strongest collegiate golf programs in the country, Arizona State University's Karsten Golf Course opened on September 15, 1989 not far from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. In fact, the course was built with private funds, not taxpayer dollars. Because PING founder Karsten Solheim was the largest financial contributor to the project, the course was named in his honor.

Although the university advertises this as a "links-style" course, this is better-described as a "Pete Dye" course; it features Dye's trademark sculpted fairways, mounds, greens, and pot bunkers, along with several lakes and water hazards. The course is certainly well-regarded and critically acclaimed by major golf publications.

Happily, the course is also open to the public. Rates range from $36 (June-September) to $130 (February to March).

Well worth the cost of play. Greens were in excellent shape. A lot of side hill lies from all the contouring during construction. I will play there again when visiting Mesa, AZ.

Sees a lot of play so pace can be slow. Greens are in excellent shape almost all year. Railroad ties and elevated greens...classic Pete Dye. Great lunch in the grille or on the patio if weather permits.

Very nice course. Some of the fairways are very tight, pinpoint placement is key.

Good pace of play for Tuesday morning, 90 deg cart path after heavy rains over weekend, green were a bit bumpy. Very good lunch at the grill.

Good course with some challenging greens,

This is a short course that you have to play once to plan the play of each hole since many greens are hidden for your fairway shot.
