This course opened with nine holes in 1931 and the design included some input from the legendary architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie. The second nine opened in 1934. In modern times, some changes to the course have been made with input from Sir Nick Faldo, the late Seve Ballesteros and Jose-Maria Canizares. For three years during the 1980s, the club hosted the European Tour's Lawrence Batley International.
Visitors and societies are welcome year-round; the visitor walking rates are £30 weekdays and £40 weekends. All-day rates, playing as the guest of a member, and winter rates are all lower. Several group/society packages are also available.

Nice course. Well maintained greens had just been sanded so very slow which I couldn't get used to. Fairways not too generous width wise stay away from the heather. Heather = lost ball usually
course route is climb up a hill wander round up top for a bit then comeback down.
Execellent value midweek, had a snack in the bar/restrauant great food good value.

Excellent deal on Sunday, £60 for a 4 ball. The course was in very good condition for November and well worth a visit.

Fantastically varied course - combination of parkland and moorland with fantastic panaramic views. Would rate maintenance higher but greens had just been holotined - not that this spoilt enjoyment. Would highly recommend.
