The club was founded in 1891, while the original course was designed by original club founder Charles James Morgan. Then in 1936, prolific architect James Braid redesigned much of the course. That layout was destroyed during construction of the nearby A2 highway. The current layout dates to about 1979.
Unaccompanied visitors are welcome only on weekdays at £30, and with prior booking. Various guest-of-member and society rates are also available.

Course played well even though very wet. Tees & greens in very good nick for mid-November. If you get into the trees, take your punishment and chip it out sideways ! Get a map from Pro Shop as walks from green to next tee can be confusing ! Keep it straight and you'll score well.
