In great condition, course and greens play well.

Been here since October 2010; also in 4 other societies so lucky to play many others including RAC, Royal Blackheath, Felixstowe Ferry, Woolston Manor, Woodford, Effringham. Truth is whilst not old and fashionable this is a superb test of golf. I understand a few comments (Abbotts) but having just played weekend champs the course is ...superb. Only criticism is lingering drainage ditches not smoothing over. greens ARE taking a ball and hence why I constantly repair multi pitchmarks that are the bain of our life everywhere. Come and visit...

Scoring relates to the Priors course, have played the Abbotts and that is more 3*. Being so open and fairly poorly maintained means it offers little reward for good shots and little punishement for bad ones. Ground is far too hard and greens have gaping holes in places where other players playing different holes have played iron shots! On the positive side it actually has some nice holes with some good risk/reward shots and in better conditions can still be a little challenging.

Greens were excellent but the fairways needed some TLC and watering.
The first cut off the fairways included too much clover and the uneven bounce caused the ball to run out of fairway on the dog leg holes (plenty of them).
members were chatty but staff in the bar could raise a smile now and again.
#The food is excellent and good value.

This is probably one of the toughest courses in Essex. Have to respect the course and play quite defensive. It does not help when they do not water the greens in the summer? Makes it impossible to hold the greens.
