The original design of this Liverpool-area links course was done by Willie Park around 1912, although five-time Open champion James Braid changed holes 15 through 18 in 1922 and had some conifers planted at 17. In the early 1980s, architect Donald Steel designed new holes at 7, 8, and 9 as a result of adjacent container dock construction undermining the shoreline near the 8th and 9th greens. Other changes were made in the last two decades, including the addition of Blue tees in 1998 and a new 14th hole and larger practice facility in 2005.
The adjacent Formby Ladies Golf Club is also on the premises and was praised and highly recommended by Greg Norman and by former Ryder Cup player Malcolm Gregson.
Visitors with a valid golf handicap certificate are welcome; the daily rates vary by season and range from £85 in the winter to £130 in the summer.

Played in the Seniors ProAm as part of the PGA Seniors and thoroughly enjoyed playing the course inside the boards as a tournament set up. Greens beast me but game pretty strong otherwise. Great hospitality throughout with the course in mint condition. Can’t wait to get back
