Old Thorns plays across the rolling North Hampshire countryside and offers excellent views throughout. Mature trees, natural springs, lakes and many bunkers are the chief challenge on this par-72 course, which opened in 1981 with a co-design between architect Dave Thomas and noted golfer Peter Alliss. Golf buggies are equipped with GPS, while the clubhouse includes a well-stocked golf shop. The Estate also offers practice facilities including a putting green, driving range and a resident PGA teaching professional offering lessons and clinics.
The standard visitor walking rates are £50/round or £70/day on weekdays, then £60/round or £80/day on weekends and bank holidays (carts are £30). County card, twilight, and two-for-one rates are offered, as are memberships and stay-and-play packages.

A very nice scenic layout, tight off the tee, but not long. Big sloping greens that were reasonably quick when we payed in June, you need to make sure your Ball is on the right tier or you can be in trouble.
Course condition is not great, fairways still suffering from last years dry spell, and the Tees are not very flat at all. Fringes are long and seem to be missing a shorter apron, which makes it very difficult to putt if y9u ball comes to rest against them.
Enjoyable, but wouldn’t want to pay the full guest fee.

Outstanding course and at £30 with a county card, very good value for money.
Some stunning holes, excellent greens with lots of space between holes which offers a tranquil feel to the whole place. If you get the opportunity to play here, take it!

Lovely course with lightening greens which are as undulating as any championship course.

One of the best featured courses I've had the privilege to play, in layout I reckon as good as Wentworth and Portstewart. I played it twice - both days were a treat and I can't wait to get back there when the trees have thickened up and the course has dried out a bit. Hotel's there to make money, beers too expensive and golf is really a sideshow....but what a course!! Play it.

The rating says it all. In spite of several heavy rain showers, the course was excellent. The course was shut when we arrived, the pro kept us informed and said the drainage system would clear the rain in 30 mins, true to his word. From tee to green, fantastic. The views excellent. The course 1st class.
