Bloomington, IL 61705-5288, United States

The Den at Fox Creek became the City of Bloomington's third golf course when it opened on August 1, 1997. This Arnold Palmer / Ed Seay design plays over bent-grass tees, greens, and fairways, with native prairie grasses lining the rough. Water is present on 9 of the 18 holes, with 131 bunkers also in play. A large practice putting green, a large practice chipping green (with practice sand bunker) and a very large grass driving range with several target greens are available.

The standard walking rates are $32 on Mondays through Thursdays, then $42 on Fridays, weekends, and holidays (carts are $16/person). Junior, senior, and sliding twilight rates are offered, as are season passes.

Beautiful course, Greens and fairways were well maintained. Very open not a lot of tree trouble to be had - some water hazards on a few holes to deal with. Firm fairways with lots of roll, greens were often big with different teirs but smooth and well maintained for a public course with lots of subtle breaks to deal with. I walked instead of using a cart and there is some distance in between a few holes so make sure you got comfy shoes.

Arnold Palmer signature course winds through a subdivision. Houses are reasonably off the course, except for the most errant shots.

Not much in the way of extra amenities as this is a muni course. Carts have deluxe GPS system. Proshop is lightly stocked. Snack bar available. Water stations about every third hole. Bev cart service was good.

Fairly good value available on Golfnow.com for about $44 a round
$58 full price during prime time.

Pace of play is based on the honor system as there are no rangers or starters to monitor pace.

Maintenance was fairly good, some bad spots on a few greens. Greens were mostly firm and fast. A lot of subtle breaks and undulations in the greens. Fairways are firm almost hard. Found many of my drives carrying beyond there usual distances due to the rolling terrain, wind. Could make the course play shorter or longer depending on conditions.

Holes 5-8 are the toughest 4 holes grouped together to form the the fox den [or fox trap]. Probably the most interesting holes on the course, and early enough in the round to be warmed up for the challenge. Fairways are wide, greens are large, demanding accurate approach shots and putting.
