The Highlands Course and the Lakes Course were built specifically to be of equal difficulty. Both offer challenges and both are fair to golfers of all skill levels. It comes down to personal preference. The Highlands Course, which opened just a few short months before the Lakes Course, is more of a links golf experience. The danger for a golfer’s errant shots lie in the high native grasses and the numerous bunkers. Rolling fairways coupled with fast greens give golfers the feeling of playing in Scotland, the home of golf. And while the course may feel like one overseas, it is unmistakable that you are in Houston. The Highlands Course offers panoramic views of the city, from the Galleria area to the Medical Center to Reliant Park to Downtown. It’s breathtaking.

The Lakes Course offers those same views. But it also throws in the element of water hazards. The name fits as many of the holes make you navigate around the Wildcat lakes if you want to score well. This course too has rolling fairways and fast greens, but what it lacks in native grasses it makes up for in water. And both, offer dramatic elevation changes that can be rivaled by no other course in Houston.

I like the Highlands course better than the Lakes. The views are much better, plus I drove the green on the 5th hole.

The coarse is a links style coarse and on a windy day will be real tough especially from the back tees. The blue tees are not that tough and make the coarse alot shorter. I was hitting driver, pw to 9 iron most of the day from the blue tees.

What a great way to utilize a landfill!! Both courses are great but I think the Lakes is the better of the two. 18 is a picture perfect finishing hole. The view of the city at the high points on the courses is outstanding.

Interesting that the New Yorker thinks the staff is friendly. I have to say, not really. There were few people on the course, which is lovely. Good experience overall.

I played here once before while in Houston (I'm a NY'er). Great course and value. Staff is very friendly. Many Houston Athletes from the various team play here, and the clubhouse is full of authographed photos. You'll getr a kick out of the working oil wells just off the fairway of the Highlands Course!
