While located within the City and County of San Francisco, the southeast portion of the course actually lies inside San Mateo County. The notable and attractive course was originally designed in 1915 by A.W. Tillinghast, but had to be modified in 1950 when the City of San Francisco ran a freeway through the east end of the property. Then in 2001, the club retained "retro-traditionalist" architect Tom Doak to restore all 18 of Tillinghast's greens and other characteristics of the original layout.

This is an extremely private club; visitors are permitted only as guests of members.

This square piece of property at the edge of San Francisco city limits is just stunningly beautiful! The land undulates across the property with a few holes that go into green valleys. Fairways are generous for the most part, but perfectly placed fairway bunkers on both sides will catch all your wayward drives. Greens are on the smaller side with a fair amount of slope and lots of grain. As usual, the monterey cypress pines that predominate the courses in the area, are beautiful with lots of character.

There are no carts nor cart paths. There are no yardage markers, and no signage anywhere. You are NOT allowed to use a rangefinder, so you have to completely rely on your caddie...The day I played, my caddie forgot his yardage book, so it was a lot of guessing :)

The course lives up to the hype!
