This very private club has four notable parts of its history:

1. Donald Ross was the original architect;


2. The legendary Bobby Jones won the 1926 U.S. Open here;


3. Jack Nicklaus grew up playing this course;


4. The club also hosted the 1931 Ryder Cup Matches, the 1950 PGA Championship, the 1968 US Amateur Championship, and the 1986 US Senior Open.

The course was renovated by Dick Wilson during the 1960s, and then in 2008 the course was renovated and restored by Jack Nicklaus, working with notable architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Scioto will host the 2016 U.S. Senior Open from August 11-14.
