By the time Jack Nicklaus had won four Masters Tournaments, he wanted to build his own course in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio and host his own PGA Tour event there. As a result of a co-design with the notable architect Desmond Muirhead, Muirfield Village opened in 1974, although Nicklaus has undertaken several modifications to the course in the intervening years. In 1976, the Memorial Tournament was played for the first time and is now one of the most popular events on the PGA Tour.

Muirfield Village is a private country club; visitors are permitted only as invited guests of members.
