The Royal has a nice variety of challenges. The course is reasonably well kept. Most of the greens are fairly flat. They look like they'll break but they don't. Not too many bunkers but the ones they have are well kept. They have red, gold, white and blue tees.
The Highlands is a fun, hilly course. Many of the holes are short but they make up for it with two long par 5s. Many of the greens are elevated so grab an extra club or two to get up there. The order of the holes is a bit funny, they save the two par 5s and par 3s till the end. The last par 3 plays longer than it looks. At 187y with a deep valley between the tee and green, it's deceptive. If you fall short you have a steep pitch shot from way below the hole.
