Golf has been played on three different layouts at this site; first in 1895, and then after 1900 with a nine-hole layout by golfer and architect Tom Bendelow. After the club acquired some adjacent property, they retained Seth Raynor (assisted by James Roche) to design a new 18-hole course, a layout that is essentially the same today. Only the 6th and 7th holes are radically different, the result of a 1974 land purchase and a design by Edmund B. Ault. Architect Brian Silva oversaw a restoration of the original Raynor design in two phases between 2003 and 2008.
