This course was designed by the late American architect Jay Morrish, with major champions Tom Weiskopf and Tom Watson consulting. After Shadow Glen opened in 1989, Golf Digest named it the Best New Private Course in America for the year and described the course thusly:

"Shadow Glen flows gracefully along rocky ridges and through tree-lined valleys... some of the finest golfing ground in the entire Midwest. There's not a single harsh feature at Shadow Glen. (It has) the most varied and interesting set of green side challenges this side of a classic Donald Ross layout."

Shadow Glen's eight-acre practice facility includes a double-sided 350-yard range, two chipping greens, three practice bunkers, and a large putting green. The covered and heated learning center permits year-round use and includes computer technology and a club-fitting area.

This is a private club with limited membership; visitors are permitted only as guests of members.
