The club was founded in 1920. The 27-hole facility opened in 1922 with a design by William B. Langford, ASGCA and Theodore J. Moreaux. However, the club retained Florida-based architect Steve Smyers, ASGCA, to oversee various technical improvements, including mitigating flooding and soil erosion. In solving those technical problems, Smyers also created more elevation changes and adding some additional challenges to the course.
