Hundreds of mature Douglas firs line the fairways of Lake Spanaway, which opened in 1967 with a design by Arthur Vernon Macan. In 2007, extra sand was added to the course to assist in drainage for year-round play, as part of a renovation overseen by the late architect John Harbottle.

This course is owned by the County of Pierce, so it is very much open to the public. Rates vary by season and are posted on the course web site.
