Diss Golf Club
Norfolk, N5, United Kingdom
01379 641025
"A links-type course with natural hazards abounding, the layout presents a good test of golf for members and visitors alike."
Golf has been played over the challenging Diss course in Suffolk since 1903. Originally a nine-hole course before being extended to eighteen, the current yardage is 6206 with a par 70.
In its new style, the course has hosted County competitions and in a recent Junior Championship the course record for amateurs was established at level-par 70. The professional record stands at 67.
The opening short hole of 209 yards is a tricky test with many bogeys appearing on medal cards. A number of the holes have dogleg features, notably holes 5, 8 & 14. These holes whilst not exceptionally long do need some care when intending to cut the corners with the driver.
The 9th hole, which was originally the first in the nine-hole days, is a gem and after reaching the green in regulation a tricky test of good putting awaits you
When you reach the 12th tee you play a delightful short hole of 151 yards. The tee has to be very accurate to stay on the narrow green.
At 468 yards the par four 13th provides a real test from the championship tee. It is a stroke index 2 but will always be the hole you remember. Given a good drive the second shot needs to be well stuck to clear the mounds and reach the two tiered green. This must be one of the most difficult holes in the Country.
The closing holes include a par five of 528 yards, normally played into a breeze, which needs three accurate shots to reach the small green.
