Iberostar Playa Paraiso Resort

Riviera Maya, 23 77710, Mexico

Parts of this course actually run through Mayan jungle -- part of the design by P.B. Dye that opened in 2005. Located 15 minutes north of Playa del Carmen and about 30 minutes south of Cancún International Airport, Playa Paraíso once hosted the Riviera Maya Open on the Canadian PGA Tour.

This course made news headlines when a crocodile attacked a golfer playing this course late in 2013; the victim needed emergency surgery, while the resort denied responsibility for the attack.

A variety of stay-and-play packages are available.

I played in July and was extremely hot and humid. The worst part was the mosquitos in the morming, hungry and uneffected by the bug sprays. The cource is really nice and not terribly hard. I liked it but I wouldn't go back in the summer.
