Greens were like shag carpet. Fairways OK, tee boxes more like dirt boxes.

When people write reviews about municipal courses in NYC many have very unrealistic expectations for pace of play and course conditions. The fact is there are far too few public courses in relation to the population so it's going to be backed up if you go during the middle of day or late morning. I tend to play at dawn or twilight and in both cases you can usually finish 18 in 2-3 hours if you're playing by yourself or in a twosome. In regards to the condition, though the greens are fairly smooth, the tee boxes do need some attention. The bunkers are not well-kept either but to be honest most of the public courses in NYC are fair at best when it comes to bunkers. There is a good mix of easy and hard holes and some are very interesting. The course was designed in 1896 and although it has been renovated it still retains that classic feel, similar to Van Cortlandt. Overall, I enjoy playing the course and think it's one of the better NYC public courses.

Awful course, really easy, only for beginners/hackers really. Waited on every shot. Much better value around the NYC area.

Very narrow course but greens are kept well. Expect an average of 5 hours to finish. They could do a better job of keeping water filled and getting new ball washers, they are in horrible shape.

Very enjoyable round. Finished in just under 4 hours. Course is in very good shape. Greens were pretty good.

The pace of play was very slow (5.5 hr. ) round on Mon. July 4th, 2011. However, my son and I were paired with 2 gentleman from NYC who were very congenial and who thus made the slow pace much more manageable. Course conditions were generally pretty good; however, two (2) of the greens needed some work.

Not bad, greens still need more work as do the tee boxes. No one on the course today but it can get very busy and backed up.
