Five-time Open champion and prolific architect James Braid designed this attractive parkland-style course, which opened with nine holes in 1926 near the Kirk Loch. In fact, the lake is in play on the par-3 8th, the signature hole here. Since then, the course has been extended to 18 holes.

Robert the Bruce's Castle, which dates to the early 1300s, is adjacent to the second green, while the remains of the defensive motte are visible from the third hole.

The green fees here are £32 weekdays and £35 weekends.
