Pitlochry GC opened in 1909 with a design by Troon-based architect Willie Fernie, although Major Cecil Hutcheson later oversaw a partial redesign. The course is situated only two miles from the geographic centre of Scotland, and is surrounded by some of Scotland’s most picturesque countryside. As such, Golf Illustrated described Pitlochry back in 1951 as "the Switzerland of Scotland."

The peak-season visitor walking rates are £37/round or £47/day on weekdays, then £42/round or £52/day on weekends and public holidays. Junior, winter, and restricted course rates are available.
