Black Horse Golf Course

Like its companion course (nearby Bayonet), Black Horse is steeped in golf and military history. Originally opened in 1964, the golf course was created on the site of the former Fort Ord by General Robert B. McClure, who christened it in honor of the 11th Calvary Regiment (nicknamed “Black Horse”) that was then stationed nearby at The Presidio of Monterey.
Architect Gene Bates oversaw a recent redesign that did away with the former 15th hole, which was nicknamed "Cardiac Hill," while the Kikuyu and poa annua grass has been eradicated and replaced with Jacklin T1 Bent.

Played Blackhorse in the afternoon after playing Bayonet in the morning during 2013 AT&T week. Greens in good shape but hard and fast. It is the easier of the 2 courses but having some local knowledge will go a long way to helping you score. I must play when on the Monterey Peninsula.

A great public course in an extraordinary golfers paradise. Tough bunkers and greens and really tough for the first timer. Local knowledge is key in knowing when and where to go for it.

Beautiful course!!! Ample fairways but undulating greens, ouch! Will really test your short game.

Super course and very hard greens. Lots of bunkers and cool weather in the summer due to the course being so close to the ocean. Expect ocean winds.

Both Bayonet and Black Horse are in great shape ahead of the PGA Club Pro Championship. Course and greens are very tough, but VERY fair. If you make a bad score here, the course just got the best of you. No tricked holes/ blind holes here. Local knowledge a big plus.

This is a great course! Many workers were out and working on the course. The greens are the best I've ever seen anywhere - no bumps and held true to the line. The fairways are great as well - just stay in the fairway!! The rough is manageable, but the fairway is where you want to be.
The restaurant area had a great and friendly wait staff.
The staff in the Pro shop were in a conversation and didn;t seem to care there was a customer waiting. After my round, it seemed the same when I was purchasing a few items. Seems they know they are at a great course and aren't as customer service oriented as they should be.

What a beautiful course. Stunning. Puts a smile on your face on every tee box. Greens are super pure, but super undulating (Mike Keiser would not be happy). I had a lot of chips that looked okay, but ended off the green in a collection area.
