Hamilton Elks is one of only 30 Donald Ross courses in Ohio. Donald Ross designed the original 18 hole Red/White course in 1927. Michael Hurdzan designed the Blue course in 1995. The Donald Ross course has generous fairways, undulating terrain, and small crowned greens. The Hurdzan nine is flatter and plays around a large lake. Golfers must also negotiate ravines and other hazards.

Sand traps need a lot of work. Fairways are in excellent shape, plus the greens are outstanding, and fast.

Nice place overall, played it for the first time in a tournament. Fairways were well groomed, and the rough is playable. Some of the bunkers were a little thin with sand while others were just fine.
Pin placements on some holes were a little unfair. If you know the course it's fine but as a first time player I was caught by surprise. The greens rolled very nicely but it is a typical Donald Ross putting experience.

I can't rate value or pace of play because of a tournament that I played this course in. course is in good shape I only rate it 3 just because the bunkers could use a little new sand in them.
