Harry Vardon did the original design when this course opened in 1908, although the greens have since been rebuilt to the USGA's tri-layer specification during a remodel overseen by architect Patrick 'Paddy' Merrigan from 2002 until 2003.

Visitors are welcome at €25 on weekdays, €35 on weekends and bank holidays. Student, junior, and guest-of-member rates are offered, as are memberships. Groups and societies are also welcome with prior arrangement.
