I have been a member since 2003. For the money it is one of the better courses in the Montreal area. The bent grass fairways, once the winter-kill has gone, are kept green and in good condition. The greens are very large, usually fairly fast and often with tricky breaks. A Graham Cooke design course it has many humps and mounds that make strategic ball placement important. The course is more comfortable for right-handed draw than fade but most holes can work with either. Certain holes (notably #9) have bunkers in the centre and distance control on the drive is a must. At 6200 yards from the men's tees and 6600 from the back it is not a course that requires long hitting to score and there is more of a premium on accuracy than on length. The front nine is mostly wide open but the back is much tighter and much nice visually. There are several holes with a beautiful viw of the lake and the 13th green from which you can see Mount-Royal. The only real weakness of the old course is its bunkers which have poor quality sand and inadequate drainage. When wet the sand is usually very hard and a normal sand shot will yield a flier. Digging in with the lead edge (normally not the right way to play a bunker shot) is often the only way to get out safely and control distance. In fairway bunkers this is an advantage as it makes hitting the ball cleanly somewhat easier.
