While the Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society dates to 1761, the moved to this site the Bartongate district of Edinburgh in 1898. Noted architect Willie Park, Jr. did the original course design, although Alister Mackenzie (1921-22), James Braid (1930), and Frederick W. Hawtree (1972-74) have overseen various renovations. In recent years, the club has had the greens rebuilt to the USGA's tri-layer specifications.
The course has hosted several British and Scottish amateur championships.
Visitors are welcome, although advance booking is recommended. The walking rates are £65/round or £85/day on weekdays, then £70/round or £90/day on weekends.
