This club opened with nine holes in 1905, but the famous professional Harry Vardon extended the course to a full 18 holes in 1911. The club acquired some additional land in 1999 and lengthened the course, a project completed in 2003.

Unaccompanied visitors are welcome on weekdays only; the Monday rate is £25, while the Tuesday-through-Friday rates are £48/round or £65/day. On weekends, visitors are permitted only as guests of a member. Societies are welcome on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with advance arrangement.
