FLAMINGO ISLAND by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. is characterized by extensive sculpting and shaping of the land. He implemented strategic deployment of water as a playing hazard and a scenic complement to the course as well as the use of multiple teeing areas with large, contoured greens.
Lee Trevino’s philosophy of making the game challenging but fair even for average golfers is evident on the masterful MUSTANG championship course. Played here a dozen times in Feb and Mar 2015. I enjoyed all three courses as some friends are members at Classics, so I was able to play there as well. Flamingo seemed to be the more difficult of the three and is loaded with sand traps! Mustang was fun and Classics was excellent. All three courses are very well maintained and the greens were FAST.

We played Flamingo and it was very disappointing. We did not have a good start. Our tee time along with everybody else was delayed by 20 minutes because they had no carts! When we did get started, our cart ran out of juice after 5 holes and could only just crawl over any hill. A telephone call back to the club got the response - 'Sorry, we are short of carts and will get one out to you ASAP'. Nothing arrived, despite another call. When we crawled back to the club after 9 holes there were carts available but apparently no-one could be bothered to bring one out to us. Very poor.
The course itself was in poor condition, obviously over-played and not well maitained. Pace of play was really slow. The staff were not at all helpful and did not have a good attitude.
Overall, the whole experience was disappointing and we all thought not worth the price.
