This parkland-style course debuted in 1905 with a design by five-time Open champion and prolific architect James Braid. The club's name comes from the name "Verulamium," which this area was known by during Roman times.
However, their primary claim to fame is that the wealthy seed merchant Samuel Ryder, who founded the Ryder Cup in 1926, joined this club in 1909 and became club captain just two years later. However, the Ryder Cup Matches never were played here.
Visitors are welcome at £25/round or £35/day on Mondays, £36/round or £50/day on Tuesdays through Fridays, then £48/round on weekends and bank holidays. Junior, twilight, winter, reciprocal club, and guest-of-member rates are offered, as are memberships. Societies and corporate groups are also welcome with prior arrangement.

Terrible greens. They were rock solid... no matter how good your short game is the ball still ended off the green at the back.
