The Club was founded in 1989, and immediately signed an agreement to secure exclusive usage rights for the Estela Golf Course with Sopete Golf S.A., which was the course’s owner at the time. Despite this agreement, the Club continued to pursue the goal of owning its own Course, in order to provide the best golfing conditions to its members and to organize high quality national and international competitions.
In March of 1997, by acquiring a share of Sopete Golf S.A., today known as Estela Golf – Actividades Desportivas e Turísticas, S.A., its members became stockholders and, as such, owners of their own Course. Since its very foundation, the Estela Golf Club has always felt that institutional relationships with the National Golf managing entities are of the uttermost importance and has promoted the guiding principles for practicing golf, namely, ethics and compliance with the golf rules.
Elected the “Club of the Year” in 1993 by the Portuguese Golf Federation (P.G.F.), received the “Visconde Pereira Machado Trophy”.
