Cathkin Braes Golf Club, founded in 1888, is the second-oldest club in the Clyde Valley and the oldest still located on its original site. It is essentially a moorland-style course, but many trees have been planted since the course opened. Despite the name (Braes means "Hills" in Scottish), it is relatively flat.

The course sits over 650 feet above Glasgow, resulting in some stunning views over Glasgow, to the Campsie Hills and the Southern Scottish Highlands, and out to the Isle of Arran off the west coast. Although it is only five miles from Glasgow's CBD, it is in the middle of the countryside, and is widely regarded as one of the best inland courses in the West of Scotland. It is located in the centre of a triangle formed by Rutherglen, East Kilbride, and the village of Carmunnock, on the southeast of Glasgow.

The 6209-yard, par-71 course is a private one, owned by the members. Visitors are welcome on weekdays only and by prior arrangement; the standard summer walking rates are £35/round or £45/day.
