Architect Bill Lewis did the original design when the course opened in 1975. Ward Northrup oversaw a major renovation in 1994 that saw all greens rebuilt to the USGA's tri-layer specifications, which were further reseeded with Champion Bermuda in 2010. The club hosted the LPGA's annual Sarasota stop from 1976 until 1988, the Florida State High School championships in 1998 and 1999, as well as several U.S. Open qualifiers over the years.
