The insurance magnate John D. MacArthur commissioned the building of the three courses here at what was the original PGA National Golf Club (1964-1973). The club was then named JDM Country Club from 1973 to 1988, after which the club gained its current name.

•  The East Course dates to 1963, but underwent a redesign by Keith Foster in 2008. As the original PGA National GC, it hosted the 1971 PGA Championship, won by Jack Nicklaus over Billy Casper. The World Cup and the PGA Seniors Championship were also played here during the 1970s.
•  The North Course debuted in 1964 with nine holes designed by architect Dick Wilson; the second nine opened in 1969 with a design by Joe Lee. Further renovations occurred in 1994, then again in 2013 by architect Kipp Schulties.
•  The South Course opened with nine holes in 1964, but Joe Lee added nine more in 1970. In 2000, the club retained architect Gene Bates for a complete redesign.
