Royal Blackheath Golf Club
Court Rd
Eltham, E7 SE9 5AF, United Kingdom

+44 2088.501.763
Dating to the year 1608, Royal Blackheath claims to be the oldest golf club in the world. It began as a 5-hole heathland-style layout, while today it is a 110-acre parkland style course that was redesigned by five-time Open champion James Braid.

While this is a private club, they *do* allow visitor play with advance arrangement. The standard visitor rates are £55 for 18 holes, £65 for 27 holes, £75 for 36 holes, £40 for twilight play and for county card-holders.

The club also hosts private golf outings, societies, and other group events.

Bland, Featureless (except for a nice 18 and random pretty pointless mound on 17) in need of some TLC. Don't think I'll be going back but for the hospitality which was first class.

Wow what a great course the maintenance has been excellent the pace of the greens were consistent throughout and all the staff were so friendly - will go again

The guys at Royal Blackheath are top class and make you very welcome. A great course (I played off of 14 in a society match versus the club)
Thought I'd melted my drive and 5 wood but came up short on the 1st due to the rain (my excuse!).Superb fairways that you can putt off and of course the greens are immaculate.
Well worth a visit since they've only been going for 400 years.

I understand the course is going to receive a complete overhaul. This is much needed as many of the tees are in a very sad state and many bunkers are need of refurbishment, although this work has been started. The front nine are definitely stronger than the back nine which lacks length and interest on a number of holes. Finally it is about time something was done about the last two holes. Seventeen is a good par four without silly mounds in front of the green. Eighteen should have the hedge removed and many more bunkers around the green which are penal. Alternatively it should be turned into a strong par three allowing for the seventeenth green to be moved back and right of it's current position.
