In 2011, the retro-traditionalist architect Gil Hanse began overseeing a restoration of the original 1894 Herbert Leeds design. This historic course hosted the U.S. Open Championship in 1898, 1901, 1905, and 1908, and still ranks among the top 100 courses in all of the United States.
