Named in honor of the area's Revolutionary War heritage, The Patriot is a traditional-style course located on the shores of Lake Greenwood. Arguably, the most distinguishing features are the earthen fort surrounded by moats, the underground cart path tunnels of antique brick, the fort ruins and gun turrets.

Davis Love III has developed a reputation of designing playable-but-attractive courses that are good enough to challenge better players, but that his own mother, Penta, would still enjoy playing.
