Bayside's opening nine holes have drawn favorable comparisons to Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw's world-famous Sand Hills GC near Mullen, Nebraska. The comparison is apt, since Bayside architects Dan Axland and Dave Proctor assisted with the design of Sand Hills.

Bayside plays over large, rolling-and-tumbling sand hills, arroyos, and other rugged but beautiful links-flavored terrain adjacent to Lake McConaughy, northwest of Ogallala. Of note here are the 652-yard 11th hole, which requires a tee-shot that carries 200 yards to clear an arroyo, and the 13th, a 205-yard par-3 with trouble short and left of the green, while an enormous bunker guards the right side of the putting surface.

Unlike Sand Hills, the public is welcome here. The standard 18-hole walking rates are $40 on Mondays through Thursdays, then $47 on Fridays, weekends, and holidays (carts range from $10 to $13). Discounts are available for juniors, seniors, guests of members, local residents, and active duty and retired military. Lodging is available on-site, as well.

What a great place to golf, loved the bluffs and how it was built in the prairie. I do have to say the folks at the golf shop are the best!
