This Tom Fazio design is a highly-regarded daily-fee public course; it was included in three different "best new courses" lists from Golf Magazine (2007), Golf Digest (2008), and Golf Week (2008). Between the rolling terrain over sand dunes and the challenges of El Paso-area winds, the awards are justified. The course is named for the Butterfield Mail Company, which dates to about 1858; their trail ran through part of what is now the golf course.
The rack rates are $65 on weekdays, then $80 on weekends and holidays. Junior senior, military, El Paso resident, and tri-county area resident discounts are available.

Part of a dormant resort project and owned by the local airport board, the course is all the challenge anyone would need. Pick the tees that suit you. Not a lot of play because of the price, so pace of play is usually quick on weekdays. The very difficult maintenance of the course/desert boundary needs work and has fallen off noticeably in the last few years. Nevertheless, this is a must-play if you are in El Paso.

Not too expensive for the price, as the price includes bottled water, and range balls! best course in El Paso hands down.

You had better have your "A" game when you play Butterfield! Outstanding daily fee course. I play it everytime I am in El Paso.

Wow! Everytime I travel home to El Paso, I play this course. It's a fantastic course to play with not many people playing due to the cost. Out of towners pay an additional $20 on top of the green fees, so not sure how El Paso plans to attract tourist? Anyway, the course is in fantastic shape, the greens are big and quick, the bunkers are deep, the staff is friendly and you need to save your money to play this course. My suggestion is to get a fake resident ID!
