Chambers Bay Golf Course
6320 Grandview Dr W
University Place, WA 98467-1060, United States

Chambers Bay hosted the dramatic 2015 U.S. Open Championship (Jordan Spieth). In preparation for that, the course hosted the men's 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship (Peter Uihlein def. David Chung), but a number of changes and green reconstructions occurred afterward. While the term "links-style" course is often abused in describing golf courses, Chambers Bay actually has these characteristics, thanks in part to the design by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The course is also an Audubon-certified Signature Sanctuary.

This is public course, owned by the County of Pierce. The peak-season (June-September) rate here is $205, although club members, Pierce County residents, and Washington state residents receive various discounts.

Maybe the most scenic course I have played. Very challenging course. Well worth the one time splurge. Course conditions were good, but remember that it is fescue.

We played in April with out of town friends and had rain, hail and sunshine; stunning views and a great golf challenge. I was their 'caddie' and I did well when i took my own advice - parred the final 5 holes coming home to stay under 90.
But it is true; greens can be inconsistent there is ALOT of trouble with heavy rough, sand and severe slopes all the way down to the water.
Still its a 'must play' for the strong of legs and stout of heart. It will humble you!

The scenery cannot be matched, unprecedented views of the Sound and dunes on the course are visually stunning. Having played similar courses, mainly Whistling Straits, this course from a maintenance standpoint and condition of the greens couldn't be worse. It's not golf when you roll putts across bare ground, clumps of poa and than more dirt. The Google reviews say it all.

If you looking for a destination trip, head south to Bandon. Chambers Bay not worth the greens fee in my opinion and cannot hold a candle to Whistling Straits.

I'm the luckiest man in the world. I walked on almost exactly 2 months before the US Open: got lucky because another patron was unable to make it due to illness.

Played the blues (but not the tips), I am a 5.x index, and I played probably the best round I've played in 8 months, and didn't break 80. However, every time I messed up, it was my fault, not the courses fault. I wish I'd been able to get a caddy, but none were available---doing so might have enabled me to cut 4 strokes off that I can immediately think of (e.g., this green won't hold, this plays a club longer for most folks).

Would recommend if you like to play tournament golf, if you're an average golfer who plays to drink beer and smoke cigars, you will probably have a much better time sitting in the clubhouse and spending 2 bills on beer and cigars.

I played from the White tees GHIN 15.7, had a Caddie and shot 89 with a 9 on the last hole, chunked it into the pot bunker 130 out, took 3 shots to get out. With out the Caddie the first time score would have been closer to 100. Recommend a Caddie or play with some one who has been there before. Great course, Huge Greens, did not loose a golf ball. Would like to play one more time before the Open!

Round takes 5.4 hours...otherwise it's a pretty decent course!

Beautiful American Links course. The course was in good shape. Green speeds were inconsistent. Take a caddie if its your 1st time playing at Chambers Bay. Their help with shot placement and reading the greens was invaluable. A must play on any golfjunkie's bucket list. Staff was super friendly. A bit over priced for a county owned course.

Beautiful day to golf and scenery was outstanding. Once the couple greens are finished the course will be ready for the pros. Can't wait to see how they handle it. Beautiful layout and challenging. Wish I would have brought my camera with me. Plan to replay it in the near future. Thank you to Fernan Kayihan for being giving us the local layout.

I played two rounds here and agree with the first comment, this is a challenging course to walk given the course layout. With that said, it is in pretty good shape given that they are getting ready for the Open next year. Not overly hard if your game is sharp, they do need to get the greens in order (which I understand they are working hard on) if they want to attract the low handicap golfers. I really enjoyed playing this course and will hopefully play it again soon!

My two problems with Chambers are
1) Pace of play due to no carts allowed
2) Cost
I personally do not mind walking, and actually enjoy it while I'm playing at Chambers, but the golfing public is not used to having to walk this much, and the hills can be pretty severe for the average golfer. This leads to extremely long rounds, especially when it is busy. With the course as firm as it always is, I don't understand why no carts are allowed.
The cost is pretty out of line for the average quality of the turf & greens. The greens consistenly are unhealthy and many times you have to play 2-3 temp greens while they are healing some of the more distressed ones. Then the pace of greens becomes inconsistent, and definitely not worth the hefty price tag. If the course was always in tip top shape, with consistent greens and all 18 greens open all the time, it might be worth it a couple of times per year. But even then, you don't feel like it's worth over $200 peak season.

amazing layout each hole is a challenge, greens need work which let me down for such an amazing coarse!

Take a caddie, Charles W was great, we both got into it. It's different than your traditional US courses.
  TSwift86 - 7/6/13
Awesome track. Service was very hospitable however the group in front of us was super slow. This course is very challenging and there are no carts. Caddies help out a lot!
  dominicfrank - 6/10/13
OK, so I cant see the US Open being a success here. Not exactly a hard course and there arent many places to put harder tees. Greens are true to links which means they are barely average to put on. The experience is worth the trip and the staff is top notch. View every step (no carts allowed) is worth paying 100 bucks just to walk the course. PLay this course !
  fishbone9 - 6/8/13
Overall, this was an awesome course. Be prepared for a workout as this is a walking only course which led to some of the slow play.
  cgin - 5/2/13
Expensive to play except during winter months. Worth to play at least once in summer. Some holes have long uphill climbs and arduous for two of our foursome. Greens were not in best shape in March. Otherwise, definitely play it if you have a chance.

The potential is there, but not worth the $$$ yet.

Amazing layout and top notch staff. First time playing with a caddy and Nick made it an awesome experience. So may local tricks.

Wow! Awesome day today. Spectacular views. Got a caddy and Juan saved me five strokes easily. Highly recommended

AWESOME! Nothing is missing here. Great staff and fantastic lay out.
  Little_Italy_Golfer - 6/20/11
Chambers Bay is pretty amazing as it is a unique links experience in America. The overall experience is fantastic - it is a great golf course. The 'pros' are all related to the broader golfing experience. The staff is also exceedingly friendly and helpful.

The main negatives to me are the pace of play (5+ hours), the cost, and the greens are right now in poor condition. They need to do something as they did not putt true both rounds I played within the last week.

Site of the 2015 US Open. Spectacular views of the bay! Great layout for the property. Only 1 tree on the course, but each hole is memorable and framed well. Fescue grass from tee to green. A good walking course with some hill climbs.
