Fossil Trace Golf Club
3050 Illinois St
Golden, CO 80401-6033, United States

303.277.8750
Fossil Trace GC gets its name from the prehistoric fossils and remnants of triceratops dinosaurs that roamed this territory roughly 64 million years ago. The clubhouse includes a display of this fascinating history, along with some (slightly) more recent clay mining equipment used in the last century-plus.

The course itself is a Jim Engh design that opened in July of 2003, on the western edge of the Denver metropolitan area. Marketing hype aside, Fossil Trace is widely considered one of the better public-access courses in all of Colorado.

Regular season non-resident walking rates are $58 weekdays and $62 weekends. Junior, senior, and Jefferson County resident rates are lower, as are the off-season fees.

This is my home course. A fantastic layout run by the City of Golden. I feel really fortunate to have such a nice municipal course in my backyard. The #12 hole which is supposedly the signature hole (has dinosaur fossils) is my least favorite. But overall I like playing here frequently.

Short, gimmicky, but well-kept and enough difficult holes to make it interesting. Just far too much money for what you get. I will probably play again, but not often. Pace of play is brutal, but the staff are great.

Beautiful!

I would give them a higher hospitality score but we had a very rude marshal get on our case for being 5 mins behind pace of play, that is the only issue.

This is a must play in Denver. Each hole was different and very scenic. Greens very interesting. I played two days in a row and because of pin placement on these large greens it was like a different course. Would play again in a heartbeat. Coors Brewery can be seen from course.

Unless we are comparing to Augusta National - which btw I haven't played - this course is incredible. No two holes are the same and the layout was unreal!! Each shot makes you think. - from the short pr tree to the undulating fairways - BEST course I've played in my life!!

It is not a bad course for being a municipal course in the Denver area. The pictures and description on the internet or much better than the actual course, as there is truly only one hole that meets the hype of its name, along with all the pictures.

The course is fantastic! Only one hole had issues on the green with burns etc. Rate of play was a little slow due to some serious blind landing areas and wanting to make sure people were clear. The Maintenance staff could have been a little more "invisible" rather than parking on the tee boxes and watching you tee off or mowing the fairway as you drive. Overall, an awesome day!
