While the club formed in 1904 and first played on a course laid out by Tom Bendelow along the north bank of the Assiniboine River, St. Charles is notable in part for having the course redesigned by the legendary Donald Ross in 1919. Then in 1931, a third nine designed by Alister Mackenzie opened. Since then, architects Stanley Thompson, Norman Woods, and Bill Robinson have been brought in for various changes.
