Torrey Pines Golf Course
11480 N Torrey Pines Rd
La Jolla, CA 92037-1096, United States

Unlike most courses that have hosted a U.S. Open Championship and a regular PGA Tour event, Torrey Pines GC is open to the public — because it is owned and operated by the City of San Diego. It is located atop cliffs on the edge of the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, and includes wildlife and the famous Torrey pine trees that are indigenous to the area. Rees Jones ("The Open Doctor") oversaw the reconditioning of the South Course in advance of the (memorable!) 2008 U.S. Open Championship, in which Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate in a Monday playoff.

Please note that on both courses, the black tees are playable only with permission from the course. Rates shown below are for the South Course; North Course rates, as well as twilight and resident rates, are lower.

This is useful information for people who are on this topic. I know some of them on the great resource so I obviously have to share it with them too!

Torrey Pines: South Course is absolutely amazing. Views are spectacular. Will play again.

Very expensive round on either course for out of towners, which seems to be a bit unfair but perhaps since it's a municipal course the locals tax dollars probably makes up for the difference in the green fees.

I've played several PGA / European tour courses in the states and abroad over the past 4 years and Torrey Pines did not let down considering its a public course, albeit I played there just 3 weeks after the Farmers Open so I would expect the course would still be in pretty good shape.

This definitely is a course where you must keep the ball in the fairways to have a chance at even a decent round. If you are in the rough it will be a very long day with thick / deep grass that eats your ball.

The putting greens are super TRICKY to read and played extremely tough.

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. The ocean views and mountains in the back drop were simply amazing.

Depending on your tee time, your play may be impacted by the dense southern california fog that looks more like thick layers of smoke. My understanding is that it typically burns off very late morning/noon.

Overall it was an excellent day on the links and I would definitely play it again as the guest of a local resident of course.

I played it about a month before the Farmer's Open. The whole course was unbelievably beautiful and the greens were perfect. The rough was brutal!! We don't have the chance to play many U.S. Open courses, so Go Play!!!

in the area got to play south course but its too expensive (well I thought it was until a got a price list to play Pebble Beach)
Nice course tremendous views couple of elevation changes but nothing special it was cart path only for buggies so I walked it kept up with buggies no problem

South course greens were phenomenal. Views were spectacular. Course overall was in good shape. Over priced for non-resident. Had to play it once but probably won't again. I don't think it is worth the price.

Some of the best ocean views of any coastal course!

Both courses are in great shape following the Junior World Championships last week. If you are a local, you cannot find a better value!

One of the best public courses around. Not difficult off the tee but very tough greens. Very expensive unless you live in SD County. I like the South course because of the views and pros play it but I think the North is just about as good (and much cheaper).

Even though the greens on the South Course were aerated, the course was incredible.
