Golf has been played here since 1919, although architect Tom Clark worked with former PGA Tour star Curtis Strange to redesign this course. New tee-boxes, new greens, a practice range, and some re-routed fairways were the result. The course is owned and operated by the City of Portsmouth.

Nice course for beginners. Play can be slow at times. A few nice water hazards. If you need to practice your short game, there are six par 3's.

For a 9-hole it was pretty good. There is some par-4's that are around 250-300 and 9-hole is like a 330. It is a good time especially if it's your first time...not a lot of places to lose balls and there is some water hazards...I think only 1-2 sand pits though. So, overall a easy course, so if your looking for a challenge probably pass, but if your beginner, probably a pretty good course.
